Why Sending Out Hundreds of Online Job Applications Doesn’t Work

When you apply for a job by sending in an online application, you’re playing a game where everyone has access to the same resources.

There’s a reason why there are hundreds of resume writers and AI tools out there.

Everyone is trying to get their resume noticed, when in reality it’s the people that are already connected to the company that get all of the interviews.

Here’s how the numbers looked for my job search as an example:

  • I targeted 25 companies total

  • I got interviews with 7 out of 25 companies

  • 4 interviews came from referrals

  • 3 interviews came from cold outreach

  • I ended up with 3 offers and had to stop the interview process with 2 other companies

I shit you not.

I interviewed with 28% of the companies I reached out to when the average person sending out applications probably had a less than a 5% success rate.

And basically none of the interviewers even looked at my resume. They just went off of my LinkedIn to fill in the blanks.

I was playing a totally different game than everyone else which made me stand out as a superior candidate.

The cherry on top is that I also got the exact right job for me because I did the research and wasn’t afraid to just settle for whatever I got.
All of this was accomplished by approaching my job search with timeless sales strategies and systems that I use at work every day.
