On Pressing Go
Humans have dreams. You hear it everywhere you go. Your coworker will talk about how they want to go skiing in the Swiss Alps, but don’t know how to ski and don’t have the time or means. Your best friend wants to play golf all over the world, but doesn’t know how to swing a golf club.
Years go by and the same dreams seem to come up every time. We have an uncanny ability to see the finish line, but no idea how to get started with running the race. Humans don’t know how to press go on their dreams.
The questions are always the same. I don’t know where to start? I don’t have time? I missed my chance? A human can dream, right?
Guess what. Humans can also do. We wouldn’t be in space or be able to talk to anyone in the world within seconds if we didn’t. It all comes down to your mindset.
Let’s imagine for a moment, that you can achieve anything you want in this life. Time or money is no issue and you’ll be able to pick up and do it within just six months.
What would you do?
Now that you know what you’d like to do, let’s run through an example of how someone good at pressing go learns and does.
I want to hike the tallest mountain in Colorado, but I’ve never hiked before and don’t have the time or money. Here’s a quick look at the thought process I’ll use to get it done in a few months.
I’m so out of shape. How will I ever survive 14,000 feet up? Wait. Stairs are the same concept as mountains. Ascent then descent. I can walk up and down my stairs every day to train my muscles. Let’s go do it now. It’s free too!
Argh. How am I going to pay for these flights and rentals? Wait. I spend over $100 every weekend drinking with friends. All I have to do is tell them I’m out because I want to hike in Colorado for just 4 weekends and the flights are all covered.
Crap. What should I even expect when I’m there? Oh wait. There’s thousands of well-documented hikes in Colorado on YouTube and survivalist blogs I can read right now.
What about time? I barely have any days off left this year and winter is fast approaching. Dig deep. Come on. Of course! I don’t need to take off any days or just one Friday. My friends can survive without me at the bar.
That’s the sample thought process of someone making their dreams a priority. It’s all about working towards what you want to do every day. You start immediately and you don’t get discouraged if things start getting tough.
There are, of course, limits like you can’t fight in a heavyweight bout professionally if you can’t break 150 pounds. However, most dreams are very attainable.
You just have to press go!
