The Path to Change Isn’t Always About You as a Business Owner

As a business owner, change is a way of life and how you adapt can make or break company performance.

Big decisions have to be made, but your diverse mix of stakeholders and employees require those decisions to be presented in the right way for each party.

Think of it like being a mountain guide.

You’ve created a singular goal of getting to the peak and everyone there with you is present because they have the same exact goal. They trust you as their leader to get them there.

However, some of your fellow adventure seekers aren’t as fast or as limber as you. Maybe some of them are afraid of heights and don’t want to get close to the edge or jump from boulder to boulder.

It’s up to you to have the awareness that you can’t always take the easiest way, even though you’ve done it before.

You need to take a calculated approach based off of who is there with you or else the easy way up in your mind could become an absolute disaster in reality.

The same goes for your business.

Take into account that change isn’t easy for everyone and telling someone they need to take a leap of faith that you know will work (but they don’t) won’t always go over well.

Understand your stakeholders and employees, develop a step-by-step plan, and don’t be afraid to sacrifice a few months of time to ensure everyone buys in.
