On Accountability

Life’s a journey.

The trail is peppered with obstacles and you’re not really given a map or guide. Part of being a human, however, is you don’t have to walk the path alone. There are other humans like you out there trying to push forward. People willing to give you a hand when you stumble and keep you pushing forward.

We’ll call them accountability partners and everyone on the path to bettering themselves should have one.

Being held accountable for your progress is a powerful thing. It’s the angel on your shoulder telling you to stay away from actions that are harmful to you. That little voice that is always motivating you to stay on the trail and not venture off into the woods. The paddle that can help you navigate choppier waters.

Make it a habit to meet with your accountability partner in person or on the phone at least once a week. Talk about your victories and your losses. Discuss your goals for the next week and new behaviors you’re working on. Then, listen to what your partner is looking to accomplish.

Mutually beneficial growth is a beautiful thing. It gets the rock pushed up the hill in half the time. It spreads the weight of the yoke for both humans. Find your accountability partner today and try it out if you don’t believe me.
