On Striking the Ball

Envision where you want to hit the ball. Look out in the distance and pick out your target. Imagine the flight of the ball and go through your practice swing routine. These are a few ways humans in sports like baseball or golf may prepare before stepping up to the plate or tee box.

These habits center your mind on the task at hand. They ensure all parts of the machine are working in beautiful synchrony. Once you’re ready to take that pitch or you put your club head behind the ball, however, everything changes.

Focus on the ball. Don’t lift your head. Let your swing do its thing and live in the moment. Being present is the key strategy to being successful from here on out.

If you think about the future while you swing, you’ll miss or swing too early in baseball. In golf, you’ll lift your head and not catch good contact.

Remember, there’s a time to think about the future and time to be in the present. Know the difference.
