On Consistency and Producing Great Work

A master salesperson once told me a powerful statement that’s stuck with me through all of my times of failure.

It doesn’t matter if it’s one person in that room or 1,000. It doesn’t matter if it’s the worst day of your life or your best. You go into that presentation with the same mindset and bring the same energy regardless of the situation.

That sliver of advice changed me as a human. I took a look at my mentor suffering from a cold, fatigue from weeks on the road and presenting for five people when I promised him a full house and I knew.

This human was a professional.

Professionals produce great work because they always show up.

They inspire because they always fill the room with energy.

Their words carry with them a story backed by years of passion and struggle.

The audience will never see the long nights or the fear of failure.

People don’t see decades of toil when they watch their favorite speaker deliver a presentation effortlessly.

True producers of value take pride in showing up and find joy in the process, not the end goal.

If you work with the end goal in mind, you’ll lose sight of your days. You’ll begin to not feel present.

You’ll start taking in the opinions of others and lose your why.

It will get harder and harder to get out of bed.

Any ounce of success will make you less hungry to produce more.

Always be hungry.

Be consistent.
